Inauguration of MID DAY MEAL programme

Inauguration of MID DAY MEAL programme on 15th August 2010 , 11 AM at our ROTAL School,

Venue: CHETLA BANDHAV SAMITY

The Club launched its Mid Day Meal Programme for the students of ROTA SCHOOL on the independence day .

The programme was inaugurated by District Governor Rajendra Khandelwal. DG hoisted the National Flag, National Anthem was sung and DG served the symbolic 1st serving of food to the school children. Key District Officials like District Secretary Administration Rtn Rajani Mukherjee, Chief Aid to Governor Rtn Gora Mukharji, Zonal Secretary Rtn Ms. Sutapa Kara was present. Nearly all club members were present and made the program a truly memorable one.

District Governor (Rajendra Khandelwal) along with Spouse Shashi Khandelwal,  Zonal Secretary (Sutapa Kar) were present

- There was a Mehndi Programme organized for the ladies & had three designers present at the venue for applying mehndi with variety of designs on the hands for ladies. Ladies seemed to enjoy the programme a lot.

- Next there was an arrangement for Musical Chair competition, in which  Shashi Bhabhi bagged the 1st prize.

- There was a singing session where there was a gathering by the members to sing a song.

- Ann Moon Moon spouse of Rtn Debajyoti was adjudged best dressed lady

- Rtn Seema Pathaniai was adjudged Srawani Queen

- Drinks and Lunch was served to all

Blood Donation Camp (Salt Lake)

Blood Donation & Blood Groupings Camp at Salt Lake in association with NIS

Location: Prakash Bhavan, DD – 18/3, Salt Lake City, Kol – 64

Shayama Shree Sen- (District Editor) visited the camp

The camp was organized in association with NIS Management Pvt. Ltd.

There was an active participation by 3 Blood Banks

1) K.P.C Medical College – (109 units)
2)  Indian Blood Bank- (90 units)
3) Ashok Blood Bank- (141 units)

Total (units) collected – 340 units

Total Registration (no) – 411
Out of the total 411 registrations, 71 donors were found to be medically unfit. That is why the blood was not taken.

Total Blood Groupings – 293 units

Eye Checkup Camp at Tarapith

Event Date : 07-08-2010

Our Club in association with others organised a mega Health Check up camp on 18/07/10 at Tarapith where about 2000 patients were examined and 237 patients were shortlisted for spectacles.

Subsequently a Mega camp was organised by Rotary Club of Belvedere Gardens Calcutta, in association with Shree Shree Tarapith Bhairav Jnananand Sebashram,Gabati,Haripal,Hooghly at Tarapith High School on 07.08.2010where 237 needy patients were provided with free SPECTACLES.

- DG handed over 1 cheque to a Polio affected boy under SATHI HATH BARALEI BONDHU scheme
- Nearly all the girls & boys handed over a hand made card as token of appreciation to the DG. He was literally moved by the gesture
- Rtn Aloke Dey conducted the club business informing all about the attendance, Sunshine collection of Rs. 2400. Everybody   was informed that there will be no RWM on 27th June and the 1st RWM of the new year will be held on 4th July 2010 at  ASTOR Hotel. All those present were requested to attend the inauguration of our ROTA school on 1st July 2010 at RCC Chetla. Club Visit by District Governor

District Governor 3291, Rtn Utpal Majumdar made his official visit to review the club administrative and project affairs. President along with secretary and Assistant Governor Rtn P C Sinha submitted all the relevant documents.

DG while praising the club for rising to the occassion and contributing to prestigious District Events had stressed on the club officials to try to undertake matching grant projects and compile documentation in this regard with the right time. Also requested Club to consider setting up a Rotaract Club.

The DG Visit and speech was also attended by delegation from RC TIDAHOLM, Sweden

Event - Joint Programme with RC TIDAHOLM

Event Date : 08-02-2010

Post Joint RWM, our club members and the delegation from RC TIDAHOLM, Sweden participated in a cultural programme followed by Cocktail and Dinner on the top deck of the Floatel. PDG Rtn Rune Astrom inaugurated the event by lighting a candle. Ann Rina Choudhury compered the event.

The Delegation members were given a formal Indian Welcome with smearing of TILAK on the forehead. Cultural programme items were all performed by Anns and children of of Club members. Indian Classical Vocal Song, Tagore Song, Hindi Film Song, Dandia Dance were from the Indian side, while TIDAHOLM members had sung swedish songs in chorus followed by a specific dance in pairs.

Members of both the club mingled freely and danced together solo or in mixed pairs in the tune of pulsating Hindi Film Music. As the evening progressed, spirits rose high aided by rising levels of spirits in everybody.

TIDAHOLM presented a special calendar released on the royal marriage of Swedish Pricess to be held this year to President Debajit Choudhury and Arindam Pakrashi

TIDAHOLM presented educational materials to our President for distribution to RCC Shishukalyan children

Our club presented mementos to each member of RC TIDAHOLM along with putting a special Uttariya around the neck of each Swedish team members.

Members indulged themselves with sumptuous Indian meal cooked in contitental style smoothened by Desserts

Post Joint RWM, our club members and the delegation from RC TIDAHOLM, Sweden participated in a cultural programme on the top deck of the Floatel.

Indian Items at the Programme were all performed by Anns and children of of Club members. Indian Classical Vocal Song, Tagore Song, Hindi Film Song, Rajasthani Dance, Dandia Dance were rendered from the Indian side, while TIDAHOLM members had sung swedish songs in chorus followed by a specific dance in pairs.

Project Kiran - A Community Policing Initiative by Kolkata Police

On 06.02.2010  The club donated 10 computers and 1 printer jointly with R.I. District 3291 to Project Kiran (A Community Development initiative of Kolkata Police). The inauguration of the Computer Centre at Belgachia under Ultadanga P.S. was done by Sri Debesh Das, MIC information Technology, Government of West Bengal in presence of Dr. Abdus Sattar, MOS, Minorities Dev & Welfare And Madrasha Education, Government of West Bengal. The program was hosted by Commissioner of Police, Sri Gautam Mohan Chakraborty. District Governor Rtn. Utpal Majumdar graced the occassion along with other district officials.

Club had its Annual Picnic at Gupta Gardens. Rtn. Anand Gupta had graciously sponsored the whole event including, Food, Drinks and space. The visting GSE had a lovely time with playing of Freesbie with our club members, children, taking part in discussions on anything under the planet. There was a closed door interaction session where GSE teambers introduced themselves in terms of their family, profession, passion, food, hobbies etc through powerpoint presentation. President Rtn Debajit Choudhary gave a presentation on club background , projects done and future plans. Anns were greate in numbers as well as in style. It was truly an Exchange program in the right spirit of the word.

Team Leader
Linda is Past District Governor (2005-06) for District 6170 Arkansas. She has been a Rotarian for 10 years and was charter president of her club. She is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow. Linda is currently serving as the Membership chair of her club. She has served as Foundation Chair for the district and has been Registration chair for Multi-district PETS for three years.Linda is retired from management of a national non-profit organization and owner of a family insurance business

Steve Huddleston
Steve is a native of Arkadelphia, Arkansas and has been employed by the City of Arkadelphia as the Recreation Programmer for Parks and Recreation for seven years.
As a Recreation Programmer his job responsibilities involve organizing small community activities, festivals, and organized sports for the community.

Thelton Hughes
Thelton is 34 years old and has lived his entire life in and around Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He has been teaching 6th grade for 11 years. The subjects he teaches include math, science, social studies, and reading. He is a member of a rock band that plays in local clubs, at weddings, and other events.

Jason Johnston
Jason is a graduate Henderson State University with a degree in English.  He was married on June 6, 2009 to Courtney Hill. Jason has been employed by Group Living, Inc. for three years and supervises clients of the organization. Group Living, Inc is a non-profit organization that works with developmentally disabled persons to help them become more independent in the community.

Sandra Smith
Sandra is a native of Arkansas where she currently serves as the Dean of Students at Southern Arkansas University. At 30, Sandra is the youngest person named Dean of Students at SAU.  Through her position, she serves as the chief judicial officer and supervises several departments in the student affairs division.

The club organised a Free Eye check & Spectacles Distribution Camp at Kusumkumari Girls School in Tollygunge Area with three opticians on 23.01.10 in association with Kolkata Basti Federation,
 
Total nos. of patients who attended the camp- 177.
 
Spectacles ordered  for 78 patients. Spectacles will be distributed to patients on 31.01.10.
 
Nos. of patients who will require IOL- 15.
 
Arrangements will be made for cataract surgery for 15 patients free of cost by the club.

Eye Checkup Camp - Dasnagar Primary School

In Association with Basto Federation, our club had organized a Eye Check up camp where 3 doctors had treated 120 patients. 63 cases of subsidized Spectacles were registered along with 16 recommendations for Cataract operation.

2 Doctors had attend 130 patients. 67 patients' name has been registered for distribution of  subsidized spectacles and a list of 18 comiled for Cataract operation

RCC SHISHUKALYAN Annual Day

Event Date : 29-11-2009

Annual Day at RCC SHISHUKALYAN, Chetla was celebrated with lot of fan fare.

We had treated around 100+ patients, 50 eye patients. 50 volunteers had donated blood
List of 25 Patients compiled for subsidized spectacles. 15 ECG and 10 blood sugar tests were
conducted along with treatment of around 10 gynaecological patients.

There was a sit-draw competion, Magic Show and mid-day meal for childs.

 District Officials including DG Rtn Utpal Majumdar, Rtn Uttam Ganguly, Rtn Jhulan Basu and other prominent rotarians like DGE Raju Khandelwal, Rtn Ajay Agarwal had graced the occassion.

The Blood donation camp was inaugurated by Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. Subrata Ghosh. Local MLA Mr. Bobby Hakim, Principal of Asutosh Chandra College were other important dignitaries who had come and expressed their immense satisfaction in being involved with such a noble project for the community.

Members were treated with Vegetarian Lunch Packets from Cookie Jar.

Lunch hosted by RC Belvedere Gardens Calcutta.

Eye Checkup Camp at RCC Midnapore

Event Date : 01-11-2009

- A Team of 4 along with 1 Optometrist had visited Basudevberia, RCC Midnapore

- 80 patients were checked

- Request for 72 spectacles had been collected

- Request for 8 Cataract operation had been accepted

The Team also had visited a remote village at Chandanpore on Heria - Egra More road (2 kms into Village) from Chandanpore High school. One local teacher had reuqested us to set-up a library for village students on a land to be donated by him. The cost of construction was estimated around Rs. 60,000/ - We had asked the teacher to set up a Society and place a formal proposal to the club

Ambulance Donation and ICM on Rotary Foundation

Event Date : 12-09-2009

With the Help of a Matching Grant from the District 3291 and sponsorship from NIS, our Club donated 1 AC Trauma Care Ambulance to Kolkata Police at a District function held at Taj Bengal on 12th September 2009. Rtn Bill Boyd, Past Rotary International President had graced the occassion at chief guest.

On the same day, there was an Inter City Meet on Rotary Foundation, where different speakers had spoke on the role of the foundation and how we can contribute in a much more useful way to this one of the largest charitable funds in the world. Rtn Bill Boyd, Past Rotary International President was the keynote speaker.The Club President, Rtn Debajit Choudhury was felicitated as the Major Donor and many other members were awarded their PHF, MPHF certificates.The event was followed by a Cocktail and Dinner where all members had a great time relaxing and basking on the glory of the club taking the jump into the next league.

12 Member Team Visits Sandeshkhali

Event Date : 23-08-2009

A Team of 12 members from our Club had visited Manipur village under Sandeshkhali Block 2 to participate in a Medical Camp organized by Sharvik Vivekananda Sanstha, Belurmath. Club had arranged for a team of 7 doctors (General Medicine, Paediatrics, Optometrics, Gynaenocology etc)
The team had assembedled in the morning at Park Circus Em-Bypass connector and from there had
travelled by Road to Dhamakhali. Then a subsequent launch ride of 1 hour followed by 4 KM journey by Motorized van rickshaw had taken us to our destination. Around 150+ patients were attended by doctors and Club has also promised to arrange for 100 spectacles to needy patienst as per doctor's prescription.

Shravani Celebrated

Venue : Astor Hotel, Coronation

Shravani was celebrated with enthusiastiac participation of most of the members aong with their spouses and children. Women indulged themselves with intricately designed Mehendis and menfolk got intoxicated in safe measures of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages.

Mithu, Ann of Rtn Arindam was adjudged Sravani Queen

Each of the member was fined Rs. 100 for not sporting the green theme

It was a truly memorable experience in the true spirit of Rotary Fellowship

Doctors' Day Celebrated

On 1st July, observed as Doctor's Day at B. M Birla Heart Research Centre Auditorium at Alipore, following five eminent physians had been felicitated for their contribution to the profession.
 
They are:
 
1. Dr. Manish Pradhan
2. Dr. Sukumar Mukherjee
3. Dr. Shiv Kumar Sinha.
4. Dr. Sumit Poddar
5. Dr. Pranati Sinha.
 
The program started from 1 pm and got over by 3 PM  with packet lunch.
 
DG Utpal Majumdar had graced the occassion 
 
All of us with the Annes should to be present from 12 pm onwards to prepare the settings and welcome the dignitaries and guests.
